As you can imagine there was a lot of cleanup to be done after the facilities sat idol during the winter months.  After removing the water from the pool cover, the plastic was removed to find that the water underneath wasn’t all that bad!

The pool officially opens May 29th, 2010.  There will be some additional cleanup taking place in the evenings between now and then.  If you want to lend a hand, contact rod.harrison@kofcconway.com for details and instructions.

If you need a pool signup form, follow the link below, fill out the form and make checks payable to “Knights of Columbus Pool”:

Knights Of Columbus Fish Fry’s Are A Big Hit!

KC Lenten Fish FryThe 2010 Lenten fish fry’s are off to a great start!  We have been blessed with great attendance through our first 3 fish fry’s of the season and have every reason to believe that things will just get better!

Why are the fish fry’s so popular?  Well…first and foremost, great tasting food!  Catfish cooked to perfection, tasty talapia, fried shrimp, fries, hushpuppies, onion rings and the “vegetable of the day” along with desert and a drink.

Informal surveys of the crowd also reveals that price is a big draw.  It’s hard to go somewhere in Conway and get ALL you can eat along with a drink, for only $10!

And to top it off, you sit down to a great meal with family & friends.

We invite you to come out and see what all the talk is about.  Fish fry’s continue through Good Friday, (April 2nd, 2010).  Knights of Columbus is located at 514 East 6th St in Conway.  We are on the north side of the Conway Airport near the softball field.

Razorback Tailgating & Chili Cookoff!

Please pass on this invitation to all of your brother Knights to join us on our council grounds the weekend of September 17th. Council 4143 Conway has been hosting a “Razorback / Chili Cookoff” weekend for many years.  The event started to help raise money for the Knights of Columbus annual CPID fund raiser.  Many changes have taken place since the  initial event however three things remain “Fun, Laughter and Fellowship”.  A few Knights will bring their campers to ground and spend the entire weekend and you are welcome to do the same.  We normally have electrical hookups for at least 10 – 15 campers.  These hookups are a first come first serve basis. Please feel free to bring your camper and spend the weekend if you wish.

This weekend normally coincides with the Arkansas vs. Alabama weekend in which we bring the big screen to the pavilion but since Alabama is visiting Arkansas this year we felt we’d loose a bunch of participants so that they’d
watch the game live so we moved it to tailgate the Georgia game.  Please feel free to visit Saturday and tailgate the game with us under the pavilion.

This year we are going to have horseshoe tournament.  This will be held on Sunday the day of the cookoff.  The entry fee is $5 per team and all money made will go towards to CPID fund raiser. Registration is 12:30 and the first shoes will be thrown at 1:00.  Double elimination.

The chili cookoff is the main event of the weekend.  There are a few rules.

  1. Cooking begins at 9:00 AM, no preparation before then.
  2. Each team can consist of as many members as you wish.  Appetizers for the crowd is always a good thing.
  3. Cook enough to feed a  small group as we will be selling bowls for all who want to eat for $2 we normally feed 200 but there are several teams.

The $2 will buy a bowl and a voting ballot.  Ballots will be counted and the there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  Be creative a well decorated booth will go a long ways.

We will start selling bowls and ballots at 2:00 and we should have a winner by 3:30.  This will give everyone a chance to make their way through the grounds sampling all the chili.

Our council has a 60,000 gallon pool just steps away from the event and we have decided to have the pool open the entire weekend to cool everyone off.  We have a certified lifeguard on duty at all times.  The pool hours will be 1:00 to 8:00 both Saturday and Sunday.

Mass times at St. Joseph is 4:00 PM Saturday with a  Spanish mass following at 6:00 PM.  Sunday services are 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 12 noon.

We hope to see you there.  Don’t be bashful, just arrive and make yourself at home, as we are all brothers in Christ and share the same goal.

Your Time & Skills Are Needed!
